About the Speech Pathology Department   
The Speech Pathology Department is committed to promoting the highest levels of care for our patients. In realising this goal, the department will lead and excel in research, teaching and the use of person-centred evidence-based practice. The department provides services on all three campuses of Austin Health.

 

We have over 40 speech pathologists working across all three sites of Austin Health, in acute care, sub-acute care, rehabilitation and community programs. We function as one department and work in clinical teams in a supportive, friendly environment. Our work includes clinical services, research, quality and improvement, staff and student education.   

 

About the role 

In this role you will work as a rotating Grade 1 and may work in an acute or subacute team. You will provide Speech Pathology assessment and management of communication and swallowing difficulties to patients.

 

A regular day will see you:   

  • Undertake swallowing assessments
  • Working with an interpreter
  • Attend and participate in regular department meetings
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement projects

 

About you 

You will be someone who has excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to you work, and have a keen interest in leading others. You will be ready to learn to work with a wide variety of clinical conditions and have the desire to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

 

You’ll further bring with you: 

  • Approved degree in Speech Pathology or equivalent and eligible for certified practicing membership of Speech Pathology Australia
  • Experience and/or knowledge of the management of an adult acute, subacute and/or community caseload
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
