About the Ward

Ward 8 South is a 24-bed Specialist Palliative care ward.  Patients admitted to the ward have life limiting illnesses, and are generally admitted for symptom management, complex discharge planning and/or end of life care. The team are committed to promoting the highest levels of palliative care support for our patients and families. In realizing this goal, we lead and excel in research, teaching and the use of person-centered evidence –based practice.

 

About the Role

As a PSA on Ward 8 South, you will work collaboratively with a supportive team of professionals, who are passionate about providing best practice for patients. On a regular day as a PSA we will see you, perform a wide range of tasks which include:

  • Participation in food services
  • Cleaning of patient and staff areas
  • Patient Movement around the ward and across the hospital
  • Restocking of imprest items and stock distribution

The successful position holder is expected to participate annually in the Austin Health Performance Appraisal Program and mandatory training programs.

 

About you

You will be someone who has excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to support optimal patient experience. To support you to complete this role you’ll have:

  • PSA Certificate Certificate III in Health (Patient Services)
  • Willing to work in a hospital environment with sick people
  • Flexible attitude
  • Ability to use initiative and to prioritise tasks and problem solve
  • Physically capable of undertaking the full range of PSA duties
  • Previous PSA experience
