- Music Therapist Temporary Part Time (8 hours/week) until November 2025 and then 3 hours/week ongoing.

About the Music Therapy Service
Music Therapy is a component of the Creative Therapies Service that comprises Art Therapy, Music Therapy and Horticultural therapy. The creative therapy service is based at Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre and partners with Leisure Therapy. We are excited to offer this position as an extension of our service to wards on the Austin Hospital Campus.
About the role
This position will require you to provide group and individual programs to people in the care of Mental Health Unit at Austin Hospital Secure Extended Care Unit (SECU) [5hrs/week] and people recovering from spinal cord injury in Ward 3 north [3hrs/week]. Three out of the eight hours of this role are permanent and will continue beyond 12months in Ward 3 North.
A regular day will see you:
- In SECU working with adults with complex mental illness, who require extended treatment and care in a secure environment.
- In Ward 3 North where the role involves working with adults recovering from traumatic spinal cord injury and its impacts on their physical function and emotional state.
About you
As the Music Therapist , You will be someone who is professional, confident and innovative with impeccable musical skills (guitar and voice skills are a necessity), passionate about Music Therapy and its benefits in the areas of mental health and rehabilitation. You will have excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care.
To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:
- Current registration with the Australian Music Therapy Association.
- Competence in music therapy practice with individuals and groups.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team as well as a sole worker.
